Stephanie Rogers
biography

Stephanie Rogers comes from a family of filmmakers, dancers, musicians and art-appreciators. As a child starring in her dad's commercials and independant movies, Steph developed a taste for performing and was encouraged to follow her passion for theatre. She attended Boston University's theatre program for one year before transferring to Northwestern University.

While in pursuit of her acting degree at NU, Stephanie was asked to sing for a role in a play, which led her to join a campus band. She was a theatre student by day and a singer in Chicago clubs by night. She moved to LA for film and tv work shortly after college and while starring in over fifty commercials, movies and television shows (see resume), she befriended the "hippies in the canyon" who invited her to their weekly jams. Again music called to her, so she performed a bit on the LA coffeehouse circuit and then, provoked by a health challenge, Stephanie moved back to Chicago after nearly two years.

Stephanie met her husband while playing at an open mike night at The Charleston in Bucktown, where she was able to develop her skills as a songwriter with a revolving bi-weekly gig. She also joined pop-funk band Hipbone and worked regularly as an actor. In 2000, Stephanie created indie label Hipchick Records to release her first collection of original songs entitled Not To Keep. The folk-rock cd received great reviews and Steph toured to NY and LA to promote it, while pregnant with her son. In 2003, Stephanie released Your New Life. which features 12 indie rock songs. Both cds were produced by Danny Shaffer at Velvet Shirt Studios in Chicago. Stephanie was among the first independant artists to use the internet to market her music.

Stephanie has been a busy mom musician for the last ten years and has now emerged with a gorgeous new cd.

In 2010, Stephanie began recording her third cd, Daisy Petal in The Dirt, which embodies a personal, witty, folk-rock feel. Most of the 12 songs were written on a baby grand piano (with a few written on a lefty Taylor acoustic). The album, released in September of 2011, was produced in Nashville by Neilson Hubbard and mixed in LA by Grammy winner Thom Russo of Sonoro Sound. Read some reviews of "Daisy" here: Daisy Reviews.

Stephanie has selected some of the best musicians in Chicago for her bands, which serve both her original music and private events.
